I’ve been doing some research on the winning history of a few different programs in college football (I plan to publish what I found soon) including the Oregon Ducks. The research involves evaluating how teams have won (or loss) over the years. I’ll let you in early on what some of my research found; Oregon has been a perennial loser in the Pac-12 (and Pac-10 and Pac-8). That is until recent history when they began to completely turn it around with coaching. No doubt current coach Chip Kelly has brought a different offensive style to Oregon. A style that has been much publicized for its ability to leave defense with tongues wagging and faking injuries to keep up. Oregon has also been known for their fashion sense and has gained a great deal of notoriety for it. But one thing that most people don’t know about Oregon is how focused and determined their coach Chip Kelly is; how he’s changed the culture in Eugene much like Nick Saban has done in Tuscaloosa. Kelly’s approach is mostly responsible for their success. ESPN Pac-12 blogger Ted Miller covers this topic in a recent post.
