Dawn Staley demands, receives apology for offensive comment about star center

A CBS Sports radio host faced criticism on Thursday after calling South Carolina star center Kamilla Cardoso a "giant Brazilian woman" who "knocks people over."

Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley immediately took to social media to demand an apology for the comments made during the "CBS Sports Minute."

While Cardoso's name wasn't specifically mentioned, she was clearly the subject of the characterization. The senior is from Montes Claros, Brazil, and stands at 6-foot-7.

Cardoso was also at the center of Sunday's brawl between South Carolina and LSU during the SEC championship game.

107.5 The Game is a CBS affiliate in South Carolina, so it doesn't control what is aired on the CBS Sports Minute.

The Gamecocks defeated the Tigers, 79-72, in the contest, winning their eighth SEC title in the last 10 years.

Cardoso, who was the SEC Sixth Woman of the Year last year, leads the team this season in points (14.0), rebounds (9.5) and blocks (conference-leading 2.6) per game among other categories. She also paces South Carolina in field goal percentage (SEC-leading .584).
