2024 NFL Draft: 3 landing spots that make sense for Georgia WR Ladd McConkey
USA TODAY Sports

The 2024 NFL Draft is quickly approaching, and one of the most intriguing, gritty slot receivers to keep an eye on is former Georgia wideout Ladd McConkey.

McConkey has turned the heads of scouts both in his tape and in the pre-draft process, impressing with his sure hands, overall reliability and versatility, short-area burst speed, route-running technique, athleticism and elusiveness as a Day 1 starter.

Even in limited action, he shone as a playmaker in his time at Georgia, finishing out the season with 30 catches for 478 yards and 3 total touchdowns over 8 games.

He's confident in what he brings to the table as a player who fits well in the slot position, but could be used in different ways.

“I think I’m a guy who can kind of play inside, outside, do a lot of different things,” McConkey told me at the Senior Bowl.

“Run deep routes, catch screens, get in the run game a little bit, come down and block some safeties… play special teams well. Kind of a savvy route runner. Find the gaps, win man to man and stuff like that.”

Here's a look into three landing spots that could make sense for McConkey in the upcoming draft:

Kansas City Chiefs

McConkey has been mocked to the Chiefs before, and the back-to-back Super Bowl champions have a chance to give star quarterback Patrick Mahomes another solid target in McConkey with the final selection in the first round.

Slot receiver has consistently been a need for Kansas City, as the team simply hasn't found a consistent fit at that spot.

The combination of Travis Kelce, Rashee Rice and McConkey could be fun to watch on Sundays and contribute to an already-potent Chiefs offense that looks to make yet another run.

Tennessee Titans

The Titans have some work to do in terms of the weapons the team is surrounding quarterback Will Levis with moving forward. The team holds the No. 7 overall pick with new head coach Brian Callahan at the helm, and it seems most reasonable that they'll use the selection on either an offensive tackle or a wideout.

If they are to go with a prospect like Joe Alt, McConkey could be the perfect fit at pick No. 38 to be the No. 2 guy on the depth chart behind DeAndre Hopkins, who is entering the final years of his career and the last year of his contract.

Building chemistry with Levis, McConkey could become a prime asset for the Titans for years to come.

New England Patriots

The Patriots continue to have work to do at multiple positions after their fall from grace as the NFL's dynasty team, especially regarding the offensive line, quarterback and wide receiver.

New England holds the No. 34 overall pick and could improve the offense with an immediate starter and impact maker in McConkey.

If that is the case, expect the effect of McConkey to be noticed clearly at the beginning of the season alongside Kendrick Bourne and DeMario Douglas
