Georgia Bulldogs lose RB to transfer portal
Joshua L. Jones / USA TODAY NETWORK

Georgia football is down a running back after rusher Andrew Paul entered the transfer portal. This comes on the heels of the 2024 G-Day spring scrimmage.

Paul, who has three years of eligibility remaining, ran for 44 yards and 1 touchdown during the event.

Despite showing upside, Paul was quickly hindered by an ACL injury in his freshman season that kept him off of the field. But he was able to make his way back in 2023, appearing in seven games for the Bulldogs with 129 yards on 29 attempts with a touchdown last season.

There's definitely potential for Paul to become an integral part of a running backs room in college football, but that could be hard to do in Athens, given how deep the running backs room is and with names like standout Trevor Etienne in the fold.

There is also second-year rusher Roderick Robinson, Branson Robinson returning from injury and a trio of running backs entering from the 2024 class.

It's easy to get the sense that in the transfer portal era, a player like Paul could rise atop -- or near the top -- of a depth chart elsewhere with a better opportunity at hand.

Paul joins a long list of former Georgia players who have transferred ahead of the season or who are currently in the portal, including quarterback Brock Vandagriff, outside linebacker CJ Madden, defensive lineman Jonathan Jefferson, placekicker Jared Zirkel and offensive lineman Chad Lindberg.
