Texas football loses promising weapon to ex-Big 12 rival

The Texas football team has a big offseason ahead of them as they get ready to make the move from the Big 12 to the SEC. The Longhorns final season in the Big 12 was one to remember as they ended up winning the conference and going to the College Football Playoff. They fell short of making it to the national title game as they lost in the semis to Washington, but it was a great year. Texas wants to make next year even better, and the transfer portal has been an important part of their offseason as they prepare for 2024.

Texas football is returning a lot of talent from last year’s team, which typically results in more outgoing transfer than incoming transfers. That has been the case for the Longhorns this offseason. They have 10 incoming transfers so far and they have lost 24. One of those transfers is DB Austin Jordan, and he is now headed to TCU.

“BREAKING: Former Texas DB Austin Jordan has Committed to TCU, he tells @on3sports,” Hayes Fawcett said in a tweet. “The 6’1 200 DB totaled 11 Tackles and 1 INT in his time with the Longhorns. Will have 2 years of eligibility remaining.”

Austin Jordan hasn’t made a lot of noise with this Texas team and he became aware that he probably wouldn’t make a lot of noise in 2024 either with all the talent that the Longhorns have coming back. Instead of making the move to the SEC with Texas, Jordan is staying put in the Big 12, and he will remain in the state of Texas with TCU football. The Longhorns and Horned Frogs don’t like each other, but transfers between rivals have become a more common occurrence in today’s college football landscape.

It hasn’t been surprising to see the way the transfer portal has gone for Texas football this offseason. The Longhorns were one of the best teams in the country last year, and they are returning so much talent. Guys that didn’t play last year that were holding out for hope for more NFL departures to create some openings ended up hitting the transfer portal. That’s the way it goes these days.

Texas football transfer portal

The Longhorns have lost more players than they have gained this offseason, but they didn’t need to add much as they already came into the offseason with one of the best rosters in college football. They have added some very talented players to that roster via the transfer portal as well.

Alabama wide receiver transfer Isaiah Bond is going to be a huge weapon for quarterback Quinn Ewers. The defense was the biggest issue for the Longhorns last season, and Clemson safety transfer Andrew Mukuba will be a big help on that side of the ball. Those are the two big ones, but there are a lot of transfers to keep an eye on this season at Texas.

Texas football did lose those 24 players to the transfer portal, but that shouldn’t end up hurting them next season. They didn’t lose many big-name guys, and they have more than enough talent to compete in the SEC next season.

It should be another fun season for the Longhorns, and they are hoping to go all the way in 2024.
