Watch: Shane Lowry records back-to-back eagles at British Open

Irish golfer Shane Lowry became the first player in 21 years to record back-to-back eagles at The Open Championship when he breezed through the ninth and 10th holes at St. Andrew's.

Lowry, 35, hit his tee shot on the ninth hole into the rough, but chipped in from 43 yards out to finish the par four in two strokes. On the 10th, Lowry nailed a similar shot from 46 yards out on the fairway.

Lowry entered the third round in a tie for 25th place, but surged all the way to fifth with the pair of eagles. A bogey on the 12th dropped him back out of the top five.

He's the first since Phil Mickelson to record back-to-back eagles at The Open, and the fact that he did it on a pair of par fours made the feat even more rare.

Lowry had 1 career eagle in 548 previous holes at The Open Championship prior to those back-to-back eagles (other was in 2013 at Muirfield in the final round)
