There was speculation on the length of Frank Schwindel’s trip to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday when he was demoted. Less than 24 hours later, his stint is over after the Chicago Cubs recalled the first baseman on Monday.

According to Gordon Wittenmyer, Schwindel is on a plane to join the team in San Diego following being swept at home against the Dodgers. There is no indication on why he was sent down in the first place, or who will be on the move in his place. However, per Wittenmyer, since Frank the Tank didn’t spend 10 days in the minors, the move must involve someone being placed on the IL.

In this instance, this might indicate that Justin Steele’s injury on Sunday is worse than originally expected. Who knows? Perhaps this is a result of the Marcus Stroman IL stint, although Schwindel was already a part of that series of transactions.

Nothing is ever certain. In this case, there is no certainty on how long Schwindel stays in the MLB. Speculation suggested he could spend meaningful time in Iowa with Alfonso Rivas’ early success. But, with a flurry of injuries and a roster in need of some spark, the pieces may become interchangeable all season long. Although Schwindel has struggled, it appears the team still has every intention of giving him opportunities after a short stay at Triple-A.
