Buffalo Bills Could Reunite With Veteran Pass Rusher
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills have undergone some major changes during the 2024 NFL offseason. Looking to get their salary cap situation under control, the team moved on from several veterans, such as trading Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans.

That has left the team short-handed in some areas. A lot of focus has been on the weapons around quarterback Josh Allen, as the Bills have overhauled his supporting cast. Along with Diggs, Gabe Davis is also gone, replaced by Curtis Samuel, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and rookie Keon Coleman.

With so much attention being given to the offensive side of the ball, people have forgotten that the Buffalo Bills could use some help on defense also. In the opinion of Alex Ballentine over at Bleacher Report, the team’s biggest need is in the pass-rushing department.

To address that, Ballentine has suggested the team look to bring back a familiar face; veteran Jerry Hughes. Hughes spent nine seasons with the Buffalo Bills from 2013 to 2021 before spending two seasons with the Texans.

“The defense will turn a new chapter in 2024,” Ballentine wrote. “Multiple veteran starters are gone, but the Bills did a good job of targeting affordable stopgap options.
That being said, they could still use depth at two of the most important positions. Bringing back Jerry Hughes would be a cheap way to give them some depth on the edge.”

Hughes would be a solid addition as a rotational pass rusher for the Buffalo Bills. They need help replacing the production lost with Leonard Floyd departing and questions remain about how impactful Von Miller will be.

There is something left in the tank, as Hughes racked up 12.0 sacks and 13 quarterback hits in the last two seasons. He would provide the Buffalo Bills with some insurance off the edge behind Miller, Greg Rousseau, AJ Epenesa and Duwaune Smoot.
